Deadly Fire Rips Through Atlantic County Apartment Complex

One person died in an apartment fire in Atlantic County over the weekend, authorities said.

Franklin Township police were called to the apartment on the 1000 block of Summer Avenue in the Minotola section of Buena at around 8:40 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2. Firefighters from Atlantic, Cumberland, and Gloucester counties battled the fire for several hours.

A person inside a second-story apartment suffered severe burns and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity had not been released as of Monday, Feb. 5.

Several units of the apartment complex were burned in the fire and residents were temporarily displaced. The New Jersey chapter of the American Red Cross said it helped seven people find temporary housing, food, and clothing.

Franklin Township police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the fire.
